Description
This is a group tour to one of our neighborhood countries- Slovenia. Private tours can be organized per request.
The tour to the capital city Ljubljana with optional tours is a great way to explore the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Slovenia. Our tour starts with your choice between two optional morning tours: a visit to Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle, or a trip to the stunning Lake Bled.
option a) Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle.
Located in southwestern Slovenia near the town of Postojna, the Postojna Cave is a karst cave system that is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the country, attracting over half a million visitors each year. The cave system is renowned for its incredible stalactites, stalagmites, and other limestone formations, as well as its underground river and unique animal species such as the proteus salamander. The audio guided tour through the cave system offer you an opportunity to learn about its geological history and formation.
Near the entrance of Postojna Cave, you will also explore the Predjama Castle, a historic castle built into a cliff that is famous for its dramatic location and medieval architecture. The castle has a long and storied history, having been owned by various noble families throughout the centuries. It is perhaps best known for its association with the legendary Slovenian knight Erasmus, who used the castle as a hideout during a rebellion against the Holy Roman Emperor in the 15th century. We will take a audio-guided tour of the castle to learn about its history, architecture, and the life of Erasmus. Together, the Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle are two of the most popular attractions in Slovenia, offering a unique blend of natural wonders and cultural heritage.
option b) Lake Bled.
Lake Bled is a picturesque glacial lake located in northwestern Slovenia, near the border with Austria. It is surrounded by the Julian Alps and is famous for its stunning natural beauty, crystal-clear waters, and the tiny island with a church located in the middle of the lake. We can take a traditional wooden boat called pletna to reach the island, where we can climb the 99 steps to the church and ring the “wishing bell.” The lake is also a popular spot for swimming, boating, and fishing in the summer, and for ice skating and cross-country skiing in the winter. The area around Lake Bled is known for its hiking trails, scenic views, and traditional cuisine, making it a must-see destination for anyone visiting Slovenia.
Afterwards, we continue our visit to Ljubljana, Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia, located in the heart of the country. The city has a population of approximately 300,000 people and is known for its charming old town, picturesque bridges over the Ljubljanica River, and green spaces such as Tivoli Park. Ljubljana is also home to numerous museums, galleries, theaters, and other cultural institutions, as well as a vibrant culinary scene with many restaurants and cafes serving local and international cuisine. The city has a rich history, having been influenced by Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture, as well as modern design. Overall, Ljubljana is a charming and cosmopolitan city that offers something for everyone.
